TOW, Texas (April 20, 2023) — Fall Creek Vineyards is releasing 2021 Lescalo Rosé a new low-alcohol, low-calorie wine. The new rosé is the second Lescalo release joining Lescalo Chenin Blanc introduced in 2020. Produced and bottled at 9.8% alcohol by volume, Lescalo Rosé is born out of the demand from people who want to enjoy a full-flavored wine while maintaining a healthy focus by tempering alcohol consumption.
“Our Lescalo Rosé is perfect for people who want to enjoy a glass of wine that fits their active lifestyle,” said Susan Auler, co-founder of Fall Creek Vineyards. “Lescalo Rosé is a lower alcohol-by-volume wine and has an estimated 80 to 85 calories per glass, making this a great option for those monitoring their caloric intake. It is delicious to enjoy on its own with any occasion or paired with a wide variety of foods from grilled seafood to spicy Thai food.”
Wine drinkers are actively switching to lower alcohol options for some of their consumption occasions, with 4 in 10 regular wine drinkers seeking to moderate their alcohol consumption. Drinks market analyst firm, IWSR has forecast sales of lower-alcohol still wine to realize a compound annual growth rate of approximately 27% from 2021 to 2025. Wine Intelligence echoes this consumer insight reporting that the opportunity index for lower alcohol wine in the U.S. in 2022 has significantly increased over 2021.
Fall Creek Vineyards employs a low-intervention method of making Lescalo Rosé rather than employing harsh techniques like vacuum distillation, centrifugal force, or reverse osmosis to remove alcohol from finished wine.
It is made by harvesting grapes at optimal phenolic ripeness, but before they have a high sugar concentration. This is the natural way to create a lower-alcohol wine as opposed to utilizing an alcohol reduction process.
“Lescalo Rosé is made with a blend of Chenin Blanc and Tempranillo grapes grown in Texas, which are ideal for making lower-alcohol wine because both varieties have rich fruit flavors, plenty of body, and tangy acidity to make a lovely wine,” says Sergio Cuadra, director of winemaking. “Because it has lower alcohol Lescalo Rosé naturally has a lower caloric content and fewer carbs than traditional wine. We’re excited to have a second Lescalo wine for people to enjoy.”
The wine is fermented and aged in stainless steel without oak aging to retain the fresh fruit flavors. Lescalo Rosé has a gorgeous deep salmon color and vibrant strawberry and subtle floral aromas that come to life on the finish. It offers bright acidity, wet-stone-minerality, and a silky body balanced with sweet peach, ripe strawberry, and cherry flavors that mingle with tangy citrus, playfully teasing the senses while floral fruit notes linger in a long finish.
